Nitron Suspension has been working on a Porsche 997 GT3 for a customer that we equipped with our wide range of suspension products. This included the following:
- Top spec elec-TRON R3 coilovers, giving the driver maximum adjustability through the external canister and a global damping change with the elec-TRON. Drivers can fine tune it to work with any particular driving style that is required such as road or track.
- The new Nitron Front Axle Lift (FAL) system allowing the car’s front axle to rise 25mm at the shock. This is an essential system that was custom made by Nitron for the Porsche 997 GT3 as it has been designed to protect the car from damage caused by steep driveways and speed bumps.
- The Porsche PASM system was also replaced with our very own Nitron DCU (Damper Control Unit) and custom loom turning this car into the ultimate Nitron equipped GT3.
What was installed?
Nitron elec-TRON R3 Coilover Kit with Front Axle Lift
The elec-TRON R3 coilover kit combines the Nitron proportional solenoid valve with independent manual compression control. Designed for enthusiasts or professionals looking to further optimise their vehicle’s suspension performance for more extreme driving conditions and a higher level of performance. Piggyback or remotely mounted reservoirs allow quick and simple independent adjustment of high-speed and low-speed compression damping. For vehicles already equipped with OEM electronic damping systems such as the Porsche’s PASM, the Nitron elec-TRON suspension kit is designed to work in conjunction with these. This integration allows users to retain full functionality of the OEM controls, while also benefiting from the added capabilities and precision offered by the Nitron elec-TRON system. In this case, the Nitron system complements and enhances the performance of the existing OEM system.
Nitron Front Axle Lift (FAL) System
The Nitron Front Axle Lift (FAL) system was also installed allowing the 997’s front axle to rise 25mm at the shock. This is an essential system that was designed to protect the car from damage caused by steep driveways and speed bumps. This was a custom made system that Nitron developed for the 997. By the press of a button, it raises the front end by 32mm at the spoiler at the front lip.
Nitron elec-TRON Damper Control Unit (DCU)
The Nitron DCU allows you to transform your shock set up from passive damping to a semi active system. Nitron’s elec-TRON valve is continually adjusting the damping levels every 5 milliseconds, depending on the information it receives from the DCU. The DCU decides what position the valve should be in (and therefore what damping levels are created) by assessing all the data it receives about the car, its attitude and the forces acting on it (braking, cornering and accelerating).
By fitting a DCU in conjunction with elec-TRON shock absorbers, your vehicle not only benefits from having extremely high performance Nitron dampers, but these dampers are constantly adjusting themselves to provide you with optimised levels of grip and comfort.
The DCU is fitted with an adjustable control knob, which was installed in the 997’s central console for easy access, but also where it could be hidden when not in use. This allows the user to access a number of pre-installed damping maps such as Rain, Tour, Sport, and Race for their specific vehicle. Damping will continue to be constantly optimised, but the overall damping levels will be determined by the user’s selection.
